The Link Between Smoking and Tuberculosis

Recently a report released by Dr. Thomas Novotny stated a clear relationship between tobacco use and a greater chance of contracting tuberculosis. With world TB day fast approaching we thought it would be a good time to learn more about this correlation as well as try to understand what other factors are currently responsible for TB cases.

In the following podcast, Dr, Masae Kawamura a tuberculosis (TB) clinician for more than 20 years and Director of San Francisco's TB Control Program since 1996, speaks about the tobacco/TB link. She also talks about treatment options for smokers and non-smokers and the overall picture of TB worldwide and in the Bay Area.
